A couple reportedly offered to help a struggling wheelchair-bound boy only to walk away with his wallet.

The heartbreaking story came to light after Heike Fabig from Sydney, Australia, revealed that her 14-year-old son, Bodhi, was robbed while he was in his wheelchair outside the Mandarin Centre in Chatswood.

According to the upset mom, her son’s wallet and water bottle fell to the ground after slipping from his bag. A young couple then allegedly saw what had happened and offered help.

After offering assistance, the couple picked up Bodhi’s wallet and walked away with it knowing that the 14-year-old was unable to pursue them.

“This is Bodhi (officially Billie). Bodhi is learning independent train travel and shopping. Today, Bodhi also learned that some people are really quite nasty,” the mother explained in a Facebook post after the incident.

“A young couple stopped. They picked up the water bottle and put it back in the bag – which is very nice. But for some reason, they held on to the little blue wallet and walked off.”

As Fabig added in her open letter, the contents of the stolen wallet, including Bodhi’s student card, had little value but meant a lot to her son.

“I do not know how people can be so callous as to steal from a child, but folks, you are welcome to the wallet. All the cards on it have been blocked. The keys to our house have been changed,” she added.

“The one thing we would really like to get back is the student card that was in the wallet. This has been a monumentally difficult and important year at school for Bodhi – who is really quite upset at having lost it.”

As the mother pleaded, the family is only asking the couple to return the 14-year-old’s student card. She also asked people to share her letter to increase the chances of her story reaching the thieves.

“We have only one request. Could you please put the student card into an envelope and mail it to the relevant high school. No further questions asked – but you conscience may be a bit clearer. Please?” Fabig concluded.

As the mother also confirmed in an interview with Yahoo News Australia, her son has been upset by the theft because he has been planning on collecting all student cards from his high school.
