Couple Saved More Than 100 ‘Senior’ Dogs Nobody Wanted

Stray dogs live a miserable life, especially those who have grown old.

Older dogs are seldom taken up by animal shelters. And if they get rescued, life is still very hard for them due to lack of family and their deteriorating health.

A couple, however, is determined to change the fate of old stray dogs. They have given a loving home to numerous senior dogs and their kind efforts are now being praised by people worldwide.

It all started when Chris and Mariesa Hughes lost their beloved dog Moses. The senior Pitbull died of spinal cord cancer just two years after the couple adopted him.

That’s when the pair realized why people avoid adopting senior dogs.

Most families can’t afford the medical costs which come with the older dogs due to their advanced age, so they opt for young pups.

Senior dogs are almost never adopted, so they have to live in miserable conditions in overloaded animal shelters.

After the death of Moses, the Hughes vowed to help the senior dogs living in the same condition as of their deceased pet friend so as to honor his memory.

Chris and Mariesa decided to fund The Mr. Mo Project – a nonprofit organization that covers the medical expenses of pets for those who can’t afford them.

The funding provided by the organization allows people to opt for senior dogs because they no longer have to bear their medical expenses.

The nonprofit also collaborates with several veterinarians, pet centers, and stores, to provide huge discounts at care, bubble baths, dog collars, and other things for the people adopting senior dogs.

Mariesa says the project “is going to give life back to these senior dogs.”

Since it was launched, their organization has rescued more than 100 senior dogs and has found permanent foster homes for them.

Chris says the foster dogs “have so much love to give. They just need the right person who’s willing to share it.”
