27-year-old Jillian was just 25 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following the dreadful diagnosis, the young woman immediately gave her boyfriend, 27-year-old Max, an ‘out ticket,’ meaning that he could leave her without any harsh feelings.

As Jil explained, she didn’t want to burden her boyfriend knowing that treatment could last for years and that she might not make it out alive.

However, Max instantly brushed Jillian’s suggestion aside and stayed by his girlfriend’s side throughout her treatment. Not only did he stay, but he also proposed to Jillian on the last day of her chemotherapy treatment.

“I got the idea by talking with Jillian’s family and friends. We decided that it would really take her by surprise if we did it on a day that was already going to be a celebration.

“It was a nerve-racking, yet exciting experience because I was proposing in front of so many people and I wanted it to be perfect.”

After the touching proposal, an event planning company called LLG Events got in touch with the couple and rewarded them with a pro-bono wedding.

“Putting on this dress made me feel so beautiful, which is something I had not felt in so long,” Jillian told Insider after the big event.

“Having this new body and having my hair growing back, I was not yet confident in my appearance. It meant so much more to me than just a piece of fabric.”

Speaking of the time the couple got engaged, Jillian added:

“Max and I were just starting to get our lives back on track and trying to figure out life after active cancer treatment. I would not have known how to do any of this planning without them [LLG Events].
