A couple who both fell pregnant in the same week now gave birth just days apart.
Becky and Georgia Ashford-Singer from Bristol, UK, are proud parents of a baby girl and a baby boy whom they welcomed into their family just days apart.
As the same-sex couple revealed, they fell pregnant in the same week after receiving the sperm of a donor less than one week apart.
Following the double success, the two moms embraced pregnancy side by side and supported each other as they were battling morning sickness.
“Our families constantly joked about how hilarious it would be if we got pregnant at the same time. It was an ongoing joke the entire way through. Little did we know that would actually come true,” Georgia says.
Recalling the time the pair became friends, Georgia added:
“Becky has been desperate to have children from the age of 18. Her sister has two kids and Becky is wonderful with them so she has always wanted to have children of her own, it was a really big thing for her.
“She got to the point where she thought that if she didn’t meet someone she would do it by herself so looked into being a foster carer.
“It was a conversation we had early on because I think Becky wanted to establish whether the relationship was worth her while.”
A year after their romantic relationship kicked off, the couple tied the knot and began looking into fertility clinics and searching for a sperm donor.
While they both failed to get pregnant for several months, they conceived in the same week after switching to another sperm donor.
“Everything about it freaked me out to be honest but when we got it into our heads that it was actually happening we were quite excited,” Georgia added.
“We’d get maternity together, they’d always have a close sibling, they will start school together. It was actually quite nice. It was kind of like having twins, just from different bodies.”
After nine months, in April, the couple gave birth just 13 days apart, whereas Georgia delivered a baby boy named Woody while Becky gave birth to a baby girl named Willow.
“My bond with Willow is brilliant and it’s the same with Becky and Woody. We swap a little bit but they do settle better with their biological mum,” Georgia admitted.
