Couple Parked Car On A Grave While Families Were Paying Respects To Their Loved Ones

Vigilantes and grieving families have slammed the “selfish” and “disrespectful” couple who parked their car on the grassy area of another deceased person’s grave when they visited the cemetery to pay their respects on Mother’s Day.

The reckless driver of the black Kia was caught on camera as the couple pulled up at the Manchester’s Southern Cemetery and made their way towards the graves.

At the time of the incident, 40-year-old Selena Zafar was just visiting her mother’s grave when she came across the vehicle that was parked on the grassy area of a random grave and just feet away from the headstone.

According to Zafar, the couple, who were not youngsters, eventually returned to their car and drove away as if nothing was wrong with their parking.

“There is no excuse for driving over let alone parking on a grave,” Ms. Zafar said.

“There are plenty of spaces outside the cemetery and yesterday most people parked outside and walked in.

“It’s a busy time and it’s lovely that people are remembering their missing relatives. However, people need to think about others.

“Would they like it if someone drove over/stopped on their loved ones grave? I don’t think so. I’m sad that in 2019 people can be this selfish and have zero respect not only for the dead but their living relatives.

“I was shocked to see that it was a mature couple who got in and drove away. So often younger generations are blamed for bad behavior but these two were old enough to know better. I guess it’s just a sad reflection on today’s self-obsessed society.”

After the incident went viral, the Manchester City Council also spoke out and encouraged cemetery visitors to park with care.

“We would encourage all visitors to Manchester’s Cemeteries to park with care and consideration to other people, and be respectful of all graves,” a spokesman said.

“This is especially important on days such as Mothering Sunday when there are a large number of visitors to the cemeteries.”
