25-year-old Timothy Berty and 30-year-old Jessica Dhans, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, couldn’t attend their own wedding as Timothy rushed to the hospital for brain surgery on their wedding day.
However, the couple requested their guests to enjoy their reception and the guests attended their reception held at a fire station where Timothy works as a volunteer firefighter.
After spending ten days at the hospital, the couple tied the knot in the hospital room with just seven guests.
Jessica said: “Our wedding really was just about us. It wouldn’t have mattered if there were 220 guests or no guests.”
The couple met in 2013 and got engaged in 2014. The couple spent $10,000 on their wedding which they couldn’t attend.
Just two days before the wedding when the couple was setting up the firehouse before their wedding rehearsal dinner, Timothy had a really bad headache.
Jessica said: “He had a really bad headache. He was falling asleep on the floor and on tables. He went home to sleep and the next morning, when I woke up, he wasn’t in bed.”
“Timothy was in the living room, watching TV and he was talking gibberish. He thought he was speaking to me in sentences but he wasn’t making any sense.”
“I was so stressed out about the wedding that I got mad at him. I told him to stop acting like a baby.”
Jessica then asked Timothy’s mother, Amy Ludwin-Berty to check in on him and found out he was seriously ill.
They rushed him to the hospital where she was told that he had a sinus infection and it had spread to his brain, resulting in an abscess.
He went through brain surgery and was put in a medically induced coma for two days.
When Timothy came out of his coma, his first words were: ‘You, me, forever’.
Jessica said: “He was very insistent that we got married. He was so upset that we didn’t have our wedding.”
The couple then got married in the hospital ten days after their planned wedding day.
Timothy has now been discharged and the couple is doing well.
