As Sue Wagener, the couple’s niece, explained, Harriet and Jack met in 1955 when the man was driving a bus for his father’s company.

In the following year, the two lovebirds tied the knot and continued to serve as philanthropists of the Moolah Shriners order while traveling around as part of their obligations.

“You didn’t see Jack unless you saw Harriet,” a fellow member of the order, Wayne Price, said in an interview with Dispatch.

After decades well-spent together, Harriet ended up in a rehabilitation center and home for the aged, The Woodlands of Arnold, due to breaking her hip and suffering from dementia.

Soon after, Jack joined her at the care home after falling and breaking his neck.

As Wagener added, Harriet’s condition continued to deteriorate until she stopped drinking and eating. After Jack found out about his wife’s situation, he allegedly also refused to eat and drink.

With their end inevitably close, the couple was moved into the same room with their beds put close together so that they could hold hands during their final days.
