A couple has spent more than ten years replying to letters addressed to Santa Claus after the envelopes were mistakenly delivered to their apartment.
Dylan Parker, 39, and Jum Glaub, 40, started receiving letters in 2010, and some were heartbreaking requests from children asking for blankets and food for Christmas.
The couple felt compelled to reply to the letters and started asking their families and friends for help as they wanted to fulfill children’s wishes.
In an interview with BBC Radio, Jim said: “We have a lot of families that have come out and said we could use a little miracle too so hopefully soon we will be crossing the pond.”
He also said that before moving into their New York apartment, they were warned about the letters.
“The gentlemen who’d lived there a few years (before us) said ‘these letters to Santa are going to come – only a couple – but just so you know, it happens’.”
However, the pair were overwhelmed when they received hundreds of letters addressed to Santa in 2010.
“In 2010 we got one letter that came in, then a couple more. By the end of November we were at hundreds. In December it was over 400 – it was quite alarming,” Jim shared.
They decided to open some of the letters to determine where they were coming from, and most were requests from children asking for basic necessities, like food, blankets and coats.
One heartbreaking letter reads: “Santa I would be extremely grateful if you can send my brother something. He’s 15.
“Please don’t worry about me this year. I just want my brother to have a good Christmas. Our mom is not in our life. Our grandfather is raising us the best he can.
“My brother is taking things the hardest. Last year we ate a soup kitchen. Please Santa, not this year too.”
Jim and Dylan set up a not-for-profit called Miracle on 22nd street, which aims to help fulfill children’s Christmas wishes.
As to why their apartment receives all the letters, they still have no clue.
