Couple Fined $2000 For Sitting In Their Car Under The New Coronavirus Laws In Australia


A couple has been fined $2000 for violating the new coronavirus law after the authorities caught them sitting in their car on a suburban street.

The 27-year old man and the 32-year old woman had their car parked on a broad, grassy street located in the NSW Hunter Region.

The Police fined them in Muswellbrook on April 1st,2020 as none of them offered any valid explanation as to why they were out.

The NSW Police said that following the inquiry, the officer working on the Hunter Valley Police District found that neither the man nor the woman had any valid excuse for not being home.

New South Wales has been among the most affected state by coronavirus pandemic and implemented certain strict social distancing measures to stop its spread.

Under the new Public Health Act, residents are prohibited from gathering in groups of over two people, and they can only leave their homes for one of 16 important reasons.

The allowable reasons include attending school or work, medical appointments, exercise, providing care, etc.

If a citizen is seen violating these laws, he or she will be issued with a Penalty Infringement Notice that can carry on-the-spot fines up to $1,000.

In fact, in Queensland, Police issued fines to over 130 people in the last week, and that includes 19 people attending a car rally.

Police in New South Wales have fined 85 people for violating the restrictions. One man who was enjoying his kebab on a park bench was slapped with a fine of $1000 last week.

While the man in the car was employed delivering food, the woman admitted that she was out there because of boredom.

Police are taking strict measures across the globe in order to ensure that people stay inside and the spread of coronavirus can be reduced.
