Couple Died After Drunk Driver Hit Them Weeks Before Their Dream Wedding


CCTV captured the heartbreaking moment an engaged couple died holding hands after a drunk driver hit them.

Daniil Sokratov, 22, and Anastasia Zharchenko, 19, were at a pedestrian crossing in a town near Moscow when a drunk driver crashed into them.

The vehicle reportedly dragged the pair for 700ft before the drunk driver stopped the SUV.

Paramedics arrived minutes after the crash but Anastasia died at the scene. Husband-to-be Daniil also passed away on the way to a hospital due to cerebral hemorrhage, The Sun reported.

The tragic incident occurred in Naro-Fominsk, 70km southwest of Moscow.

Daniil and Anastasia fell in love a year ago and were about to tie the knot this year.

Anastasia’s heartbroken mother, Yulia Limarenko, said: “They dreamed of living together and made plans for the future. There is nothing now. No plans. No life.”

A pathologist who stopped the couple’s families from seeing the bodies said all of the victims’ bones were shattered.

The driver, 27-year-old Vitaliy Kaliberda, tried to flee the scene upon realizing what had happened but witnesses managed to stop him from escaping and handed him over to authorities.

A source said the Cadillac Escalade was moving at more than 100mph and the engaged couple stood no chance at surviving even though paramedics arrived minutes after the crash.

A criminal case has been launched for “causing the death of two or more persons by negligence.”

“The driver of the vehicle has been detained,” police spokesperson Irina Volk said. Kaliberda will face up to seven years behind bars if found guilty.
