Senior Couple Suffering From COVID-19 Celebrated Golden Wedding Anniversary In ICU


A senior couple suffering from COVID-19 were seen holding their hands in the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary while in the intensive care unit.

73-year-old Giancarlo and 71-year-old Sandra from Italy posed for a tear-jerking photo after the Murri Hospital staff arranged for the couple to be together on their 50th wedding anniversary.

In one photo taken by healthcare workers, the couple is seen holding hands in the presence of medical staff who made their celebration possible.

The unusual celebration was made possible thanks to nurse Roberta Ferretti who found out that the couple was celebrating 50 years of marriage while in quarantine.

“Sandra cried a lot, not for herself, she was worried about her husband. He told me how much he still loved her, after so many years,” she said in an interview with the local media.

“When I found out that it was their anniversary, I thought they had to celebrate it.”

While the celebration didn’t last long, the senior couple were able to hold each other’s hand and create yet another unforgettable memory.

“We put the 50 candle on a small cake because you cannot light it near oxygen, we played the Wedding March, they had their beds together and they held hands, with the little strength they still have,” Ferretti added.

“It was an amazing moment, very beautiful, those minutes alone pay us for all the sacrifice we have made these days. He kept repeating how much he loves her, we broke into tears. In the air, you could feel the love you chase your whole life.”
