Countries Rush To Build Emergency Wards As Europe Becomes The Epicenter Of Coronavirus


WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus recently said that Europe is now the ‘epicenter’ of coronavirus as he lamented the ‘tragic milestone’ of 5,000 worldwide deaths from the disease.

He also said that Europe has “more reported virus cases and deaths than the rest of the world combined, apart from China.”

Tedros said to reporters in Geneva: “Europe has now become the epicentre of the pandemic. More cases are now being reported every day than were reported in China at the height of its epidemic.”

The chief did not mention numbers for his comparison with China but the count in Europe has increased an average of 4,000 a day.

Beijing health authorities were reporting around 3,000 new cases a day during the height of the crisis in China in February.

Workers in Russia were rushing to build a new clinic in Babenki village. France also vowed to ‘massively increase’ the country’s hospital capacity while trying its best to contain the virus.

Students were staying at home across Europe, as Switzerland, Ireland, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta and Portugal became the latest countries to close their schools.

Disneyland Paris closed down after some of its workers got infected with the coronavirus, which has already taken the lives of at least 6,500 people.

Czech Republic banned all foreign travelers from coming in and out of the country, and Denmark has also taken the same action.

In Italy, which has more than 24,700 cases and at least 1,800 deaths, Catholic churches in Rome have been closed.
