The Daily Mail has just reported that the Countess of Wessex, wife of Prince Edward, had been secretly volunteering to prepare meals for the National Health Service staffs since the global pandemic began.
According to the Mail, Sophie had been assisting professional chefs once every week. Sponsored by British hedge fund manage Ian Wace, the Countess and her team has prepared 59,000 meals for healthcare workers so far. They have been helping NHS staff located in the Greater London area.
According to the staff, the 55-year-old Countess has been showing up once every week by herself. She did not bring any publicists or reporters with her, and did everything just like anyone else – preparing dishes, cooking and cleaning up the kitchen.
Wearing a face mask, gloves and an apron, the Countess is known to have helped with making wraps and tarts this week. An event planner who has worked closely with the royal family in the past said he introduced the Countess to this charity which she decided to help without any hesitation.
Peregrine Armstrong-Jones, pictured in the left, said that the Countess’ presence uplifted morale for everyone involved. Armstrong-Jones has also been helping out with the charity himself.
According to him, everyone especially appreciates how Sophie is doing this without any of the fanfare. By working hard just like everyone else without thinking about publicity, Armstrong-Jones said that the Countess has earned everyone’s respect.
Most of the actual cooking is known to take place at the headquarters of Marshall Wace, located in Chelsea. As aforementioned, Wace and his firm are also financing this act of charity. Everyday, the team of volunteers are preparing lunch and dinner for the NHS staff.
The chef who is in charge of the whole process is a celebrity in himself. Sir Elton John’s private chef Mark Brown has been appointed as the head chef, who is ensuring that the meals are meeting a culinary standard as well.
The Countess has been known to have a great relationship with Queen Elizabeth. Sophie has appeared in almost all royal activities that have taken place since the pandemic broke out.
