There are Over 70 Coronavirus Vaccines in Development Worldwide With 3 Under Human Trials, Says WHO


As per the reports of the World Health Organization (WHO), there are over 70 vaccines for COVID19 presently under development, and three of them are under human trials.

Out of the three, one team belongs to the Beijing Institute of Biotechnology along with CanSino Bio, Hong Kong, and two are from American companies.

The rest of 67 vaccines that are being created by scientists across the globe include teams in the UK who are rapidly approaching the human trial stage. This hopeful news from WHO comes after the worldwide death toll from coronavirus surpassed 100,000.

WHO gave a public statement on Monday where it said that under coordination with WHO, a team of experts holding diverse background is working on the vaccine development for COVID-19.

As of now, everyone should follow the medical recommendation to curb the spread of this virus and protect individuals’ health.

The list showed Beijing Institute of Biotechnology together with Hong Kong’s CanSino Bio and are in the forefront with the vaccines titled ad5-nCoV.

CanSino said that the team is planning to go ahead with the second phase of clinical tests with genetically engineered vaccine candidates in the country.

Out of the two American drug companies, Massachusetts-based Moderna acquired regulatory approval to go qhead with human trial last month. And, Inovia Pharmaceutical, a Pennsylvania-based company, received the permission for human trial last week.

The rest of the developments from WHO’s lists are still in preclinical evaluation at various universities of Australia, London, Japan, etc.

The entire drug industry, with its effort, is trying to shorten the time it takes to come up with a vaccine to combat COVID-19. While generally, it takes 10-15 years to come up with a vaccine, the industry envisions to make the vaccine available by next year.
