Allegedly, the man not only attempted to hide these symptoms but also refused to self-isolate for 14 days as per the government orders.

As the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China reported, Guo returned to his work as usual and failed to notify the authorities about his trip to Europe. He also took a subway on the way to work and visited a pharmacy to buy medications on his way back.

As the authorities attempted to contact the man, he allegedly failed to answer his phone. As for the 29-year-old’s mother, she told them that her son didn’t go on a trip abroad – a statement that was proved to be false thanks to the country’s national surveillance system.

After the mother was told to inform her son to meet them outside his home, Guo was apprehended and taken into quarantine where he tested positive for COVID-19.

With the epidemic allegedly suppressed in China, the authorities have grown concerns about so-called imported cases that could lead to a second outbreak if not contained immediately.
