Confirmed Coronavirus Cases Rose By 1000% In Just One Day In Qatar


Authorities in Qatar have confirmed a tenfold increase in coronavirus cases in the country after the number of infections jumped from 24 to 262 in just a day.

“The Ministry of Public Health announced today that it recorded 238 new confirmed cases of coronavirus 2019,” the officials announced.

Following the spreading of the killer bug in the country, the authorities have canceled a series of public events and gatherings and temporarily closed down all educational institutions.

In addition, the government has also banned travelers from several countries from entering Qatar.

Meanwhile, another Persian Gulf country, Iran, has been facing one of the world’s harshest coronavirus outbreaks with more than 9,000 confirmed cases.

“Based on new lab results, we have identified 958 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection in the country, bringing the total number of cases to 9,000,” Kianoush Jahanpour of the country’s health ministry said during a conference.

“Unfortunately, in the past 24 hours, we have had reports of 63 deaths and overall 354 have lost their lives.”

While the coronavirus outbreak in Iran comes with a terrible death toll, dozens of Iranians have also died of alcohol poisoning after drinking bootleg alcohol in an attempt to protect themselves from coronavirus.

According to the state media, the people who passed away from alcohol poisoning “drank bootleg alcohol over rumors that it would be effective in treating coronavirus and were poisoned.”

The poisonings were most evident in the province of Khuzestan where 36 people died from bootleg alcohol in comparison to 18 who passed away from Covid-19 according to previous reports.

An additional 7 victims have died from alcohol poisoning in Alborz and 1 in Kermanshah.

Since alcohol in the country is banned for the majority of people, people have been resorting to illegally obtained liquor after hearing that alcohol may destroy coronavirus.
