Following a basketball game around 7pm near Madison Avenue, Harlem, an 11 year old girl was attacked by the five other girls. During this process, the child was slapped, kicked, punched and as aforementioned even stunned by a stun gun.

G.N. Miller, the New York Post photographer, recorded the brutal beating as well as the police just watching the fight break out in their vehicles. It was only after the fight resided and the girl all bloodied up the cops decided to go and check the situation.

The photos by Miller clearly show around 20 police vehicles that easily could have intervened in the situation; one car was so close that it would have been mere steps for an officer to break up the fight as it became clear that it was no joke.

The police did confirm that the girl who received the beating was sent to a nearby hospital. She was cut, had bruises and was stunned in the belly. The girl told the police that she does not really know the culprits, but are familiar with two of the attackers’ social media account.

At the same time, NYPD spokesperson Al Baker denied what Miller witnessed. Baker argued that when the officers tried to approach the scene, they were met with a hostile group who threw objects at the officers, and they thus had to call all the available backup.

As the story became known, NYPD uploaded a video of an officer who was met with flying objects. However, the scene in which the girl was getting beaten up was not visible.

Miller stood by his position, saying that there were no objects being thrown around for the 45 minutes that he was on the scene taking the photographs.

Some believe that this is a blatant example of the NYPD’s semi-boycott of their work as a protest against the recent police reforms. From traffic tickets to arrests, the number of police activity has drastically fallen in the recent weeks.
