Conjoined twins who were on the brink of death before they even came to the world have survived a demanding separation surgery and beat the odds.
When now-7-year-old Ruby and Rosie were still in the womb, their mother was told that the girls likely wouldn’t make it out alive.
The drama further spiraled out of control as the doctors said the girls needed to be moved to another hospital for emergency surgery right after they were delivered through caesarian.
In order to stay with their girls during the surgery, parents Angela and Daniel Formosa had to make a sudden move despite the fact that the mother was still recovering.
“We were scared but termination was never an option for me,” the 38-year-old mother-of-three said, speaking of the time doctors warned her that her daughters will likely not survive. “I just couldn’t do that… and look I made the right decision.”
Following their birth, Ruby and Rosie, who were fused at the abdomen, were transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital where surgeons separated them and put them out of critical condition.
“I was having scans every two weeks and each time I was told to prepare myself that there probably won’t be two heartbeats,” Angela recalled.
Fortunately, however, everything turned out well and the 7-year-old girls are now flourishing.
“They look after each other and are constantly finishing off each other’s sentences. They even got identical grades in their school report,” their mother claimed.
As Angela added, the London-based twins have already decided to become doctors and help others when they grow up.
