A video has been posted showing employees crawling on all fours after they reportedly failed to meet their sales targets.
The video has been watched over 16 million times. It shows employees of a company in Changchun, China, crawling on their hands and feet along a red carpet.
The employee who filmed the incident want to remain anonymous but said the senior staff did three circles around the venue.
They also reportedly chanted phrases like ‘I’m responsible’ and ‘I swear’ while other workers watched.
A spokesperson said to local media that none of the company executives demanded the unusual act. “The company didn’t force staff members to crawl on the floor. They volunteered to do it themselves, and I have no idea why.
“There’s no way we’d have forced them to crawl on the floor, and we cannot control what they willingly do themselves.”
People who watched the video were horrified by the incident and criticized the company. One Weibo user wrote: “Quick reminder that this is the year 2020.”
Another wrote: “This looks like multi-level marketing nonsense.”
A third added: “There must be seriously wrong with the company’s owner.”
The bizarre incident is not the first of its kind doing rounds on social media. Just last year, another clip was leaked that reportedly showed employees from another Chinese company crawling on the ground as punishment for not hitting their sales targets.
People were shocked to see a line of staff slowly cross the streets while vehicles drove past them.
Btime reported that all of the employees seen crawling in the clip were women who worked for a firm that sells beauty products.
