The boss of a real estate company surprised his 198 employees by showering them with massive bonuses worth $10 million in total during the company’s annual party.
Maryland-based St. John Properties went the extra mile to ensure that the employees would be left in tears of happiness during the company’s annual party.
As President Lawrence Maykrantz explained, the company has reached an important milestone and they decided to reward their employees for the achievement with more-than-generous bonuses.
“When I opened the envelope, I was in total disbelief,” assistant project manager Stephanie Ridgway said in an interview with CNN.
“I couldn’t believe I saw what I saw. I don’t even have words to properly describe how I felt, it was just amazing and incredible. I’m still in shock. It’s definitely life-changing.”
The company showered their 198 employees with bonuses totaling up to $10 million, meaning that the average bonus was around $50,000. As the leaders explained, the bonus was based on how long the employee has been working for the company.
While a new employee that hadn’t even started working yet received just $100, the highest payout stood at $270,000.
“We wanted to do something to thank all our employees for helping us achieve our goal, and we wanted to do something big,” President Maykrantz told CNN.
“It was truly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever witnessed in my life. Everyone was all overwhelmed with emotions. They were screaming, crying, laughing, hugging.
“People were lining up to hug us, and kiss us, and shake our hands and they told us story after story of what they’re going to use their bonuses for. People are now debt free; they’re paying off their credit cards, their mortgages, their tuition and student loans.”
As one of the happy workers said, they were left speechless after opening the envelope and seeing the massive bonus written on the paper.
Another one said they were looking forward to investing some of the money and dedicating the rest towards their children’s education.
“We are so proud of our employees. They are the foundation and the reason behind the success of our company,” Maykrantz added.
“And we wanted a big way to thank them and I think we were successful in doing that.”
