The family of Colorado gunman who shot dead ten people have spoken out and revealed a series of details concerning the shooter’s past.
Following the deadly shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, the police have arrested 21-year-old Ahmad Alissa and confirmed that the gunman is facing ten counts of first-degree murder for killing ten people, including a police officer.
While the motives for the gruesome shooting remain unclear as of this writing, more details about the suspect’s past have emerged.
According to the reports, it is believed that the young man was born in Syria and arrived in the States with his family when he was three years old.
As his family members told the media, Ahmad was a bubbly kid who became incredibly anti-social after suffering bullying while in high school.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, the gunman’s brother, 34-year-old Ali Aliwi Alissa, revealed how his brother became paranoid and how his family believed he was mentally ill.
“When he was having lunch with my sister in a restaurant, he said: ‘People are in the parking lot, they are looking for me’. She went out, and there was no one. We didn’t know what was going on in his head,” Ali recalled as he claimed Ahmad would always feel as if he’s being chased by strangers.
Ahmad, who often voiced his discontent with the former president on social media, previously also accused his school and “Islamophobic people” of hacking his phone and suggested they’re not letting him have a normal life.
“Just curious what are the laws about phone privacy because I believe my old school (a west) was hacking my phone. Anyone know if I can do anything through the law?” he wrote back in March 2019.
Months later, he added: “Yeah if these racist islamophobic people would stop hacking my phone and let me have a normal life I probably could.”
As Ali insisted, his brother’s gruesome killings were not a part of his “political statement” but the outcome of dealing with “mental illness” for several years.
“The guy used to get bullied a lot in high school, he was like an outgoing kid but after he went to high school and got bullied a lot, he started becoming anti-social,” the brother told The Daily Beast.
Meanwhile, the gunman’s sister-in-law told the authorities that she had noticed playing Ahmad with his firearm just days before the mass shooting at the supermarket.
Another family member, who identified herself as the man’s sister, revealed that the entire family has been left shocked and said she knew her little brother as a “quiet” and “nice” sibling.
