Parents Are Livid After A Supermarket Closed The Baby Products Section Because They’re “Non-Essential”

With lockdowns in effect, people are being told to stay home and work from home if they could.

This means that the only people who should be outside are those in essential occupations and the same goes for businesses.

But parents are up in arms after B&M decided to categorize baby products as items that “aren’t a necessity” and proceeded to close off the aisles for these products.

One incensed shopper at a store in Gloucester took a picture of a roped-off aisle with a sign announcing that it had been closed off.

The notice read: “To all customers, as a business, we’ve temporarily closed these aisles.

“We don’t deem them as necessities.

“Please stay safe and remember to keep your distances.”

But what had the shopper livid was the fact that the aisles were fully stocked with baby products like Aptamil milk, bibs, and shampoo, items that any parent with a baby would insist are absolute essentials.

After panic buying emptied store shelves, moms have been having a hard time finding basic necessities such as diapers and milk, more so now that the UK has gone into lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Sharing the pic on Facebook, one frustrated parent wrote: “Could anyone explain how baby items aren’t necessities?? I personally think this is absolutely ridiculous!”

Hundreds of moms have echoed the sentiment, saying that shutting down aisles full of baby products was simply “wrong.”

One of them raged: “Anyone care to explain why these items are not a necessity, does providing for a baby not count then ?”

Another added: “Are they joking?? Is that because people want everything rather than their normal supplies.”

A third said: “If I needed something for my baby, like that tape is going to stop me from going down there.”

This mom fumed: “This is ridiculous.. people are struggling to get baby milk and nappy’s, etc and they’re telling us they’re not necessities. People really need to open their f*****g eyes!”

And another ranted: “I would rip that straight down! Craziness! There is not one thing on that shelf a baby wouldn’t need!”

B&M has as yet not responded to requests for comment.
