Of the many things that could go wrong on your prom night, being turned away at the door has to be the absolute worst.
We’ve covered some pretty sad prom stories, like one girl being told “girls like us need to cover up”. Prom is the night where sadly many high school friendships will end as all begin their new lives at college. It’s a truly magical, but important night for these teenagers. This was especially true for Clare who had been homeschooled all her life, so being able to go to her local church and celebrate prom with her boyfriend and friends was an all new, yet exciting experience for her.
All seemed perfect as Clare was preparing for her prom. She managed to find the perfect silver dress. Clare took special care to make sure the test passed the “fingertip test,” which means that the dress extends below the tips of her fingers when worn. So what went so wrong?

After a long wait, Clare was finally ready for prom. With the perfect make-up, her beautiful new dress and the best shoes, Clare was ready to stun the world. Clare even remarks on her blog that she was channeling her inner Marilyn Monroe. She took dozens of pictures with her boyfriend before heading to the church where the prom was held.
But that’s where Clare’s good luck would end, as the night was about to be turned into a total nightmare for the teenager. As soon as Clare and her boyfriend walked up to the entrance of the church one of the prom organizers looked at her, shook her head and said “Honey, that dress is too short.
” Clare was shocked that even though the dress had passed the fingertip test, this organizer still deemed her dress “too short.” Clare wasn’t about to give up there, though and after a discussion with the organizer, she was allowed into the prom.
Unfortunately, this was only a taste of what was to come as Clare’s night would only continue downward. Not even an hour later, another organizer of the prom decided to eject Clare from the dance floor completely. The reason? The organizer believed that Clare’s dance moves were too provocative.
The organizer claimed that the combination of Clare’s dress and dancing was causing “the young men at the prom to think impure thoughts.” Apparently, to this organizer, what other men at the prom are doing is somehow Clare’s problem.

Clare fired back on her blog stating that she hadn’t even danced at that point, much less in a provocative manner. But the night have been ruined. Clare and her boyfriend were kicked from the prom, and were left alone and completely humiliated.
As if the night couldn’t possibly get any worse, Clare and her boyfriend demanded a refund for their $25 tickets. The refund request seemed reasonable because they were unable to enjoy the event they paid for, so they should be refunded.
But the organizers flat out refused to even offer Clare that.
Clare and her boyfriend were furious that they were treated this way on their special night. Instead of being able to party with her friends and have a good time, they were now the only ones excluded and were humiliated.
Clare wasn’t about to take this injustice laying down, as she knew she had to fire back. That’s when she took to her blog, where she wrote a blog post that quickly went viral gaining support from thousands across the country.
Tell us, what do you think of Clare’s dress? Do you agree with the organizers or do you think they were unreasonable? Is it Clare’s fault that the men would think “impure thoughts”? Let us know down in the comments.
