City Hall Protesters Barricaded Subway And Covered Buildings In Graffiti


NYC City Hall protesters trashed the surroundings, barricaded subway entrances, and covered buildings in graffiti amid the ‘Occupy City Hall’ protest.

For over one week, the protesters have been camping outside the City Hall in New York City and demanding changes in the criminal justice system and the end of systemic racism.

As the city decided to cut $1 billion off of the police department’s budget, the protesters celebrated by camping outside the City Hall, in the area now dubbed as the ‘Abolition Park’, and spraying graffiti on nearby streets and buildings, including the City Hall itself.

As seen in the photos, hundreds of protesters have established tents in the park, whereas others are seen resting and napping on the ground. Fences, railings, and barricades have been covered in clothes and sheets and signs with further demands.

According to the reports, the protesters have also blocked the Brooklyn Bridge City Hall subway station using wooden and metal barricades.

On Tuesday, the NYC Council voted to cut the New York Police Department’s budget by $1 billion, news well-accepted by the protesters surrounding the City Hall.

However, despite the City’s decision, the protesters have continued to gather in the ‘Abolition Park’, with some allegedly insisting that the cut isn’t enough and suggesting that the police department should be defunded completely.

Until met by the reaction of the police, the protesters allegedly also attempted to expand their barricaded police-free zone to nearby streets.
