Equality has become a far cry these days and our society does not follow this thing.
It would not be wrong to say that this idea is somehow utopian as it serves better and apart from this equality motivates a person so that he or she can try to do better every time.
As it is said that if you intend to change anything then you will have to be that change to bring something unique.
With an aim to themselves, the residents of British Columbia took this saying seriously and decided to bring a change.
They found ambiguity in the law after the city council voting down for a rainbow crosswalk.
The city council of Chilliwack a Canadian town refused for a proposal in which they intended to make rainbow crosswalks till September this year. According to them, this law will divide people from different schools of thought.
But the public was so keen to make it happen and thus they found a solution to the ambiguity in the law. As the city cannot take legal action on private owned lands so the residents decided to take action and came up with 16 crosswalks.
Unlike most of the social issues the people who first participated in this were indigenous belonging toTs’elxweyeqw Tribe.
According to their president Dave Jimmie “they are an inclusive community and they wanted to express their support so that is why they painted crosswalk near Squiala First Nation land in August and the other two on Tzeachten First Nation land”.
According to Dave this initiative which his community took is very dear to him as a few days back his friend from the LGBTQ community left him towards eternal life.
Being a member of the indigenous community they have to suffer marginalization and a member of the LGBTQ community Alison Tedford said that they have to suffer at different platforms of life and it is a pleasure to see indigenous people supporting each other.
Upon everything, it was such a pleasure for him to see his leadership and community on one page and taking action on this issue.
People must accept everyone’s stance and way of living and must show respect for each other despite differences. As Marty van den Bosch accepted diversity by painting a rainbow crosswalk on his property along with his wife.
He gave a message that people should be judged on the basis of their actions, not on their beliefs and practices.
This initiative is started in other cities of British Columbia as well and this is not going to stop here but the one who started with this idea Amber Price is of the view that they should make Chilliwack as the world record holder of rainbow crosswalks.
