Cinema Seats And Carpets Covered In Mold After Nearly Two-Month Lockdown


A cinema in Malaysia became covered in mold after two months of COVID-19 lockdown, which has also destroyed the country’s leather products.

The cinema’s red and purple seats had been ruined not only by dust but also by a thick layer of mold.

With more than 6,700 confirmed cases and over 100 fatalities, Malaysia eased restrictions but has kept strict rules on some areas where there have been new cases of coronavirus.

Cinemas can replace their seats and have a deep clean but retailers had to dispose of their leather products.

“This is actually a good thing for places like cinemas. Finally they can start a full cleanup after 10 years of disgusting filth and dust, time to say goodbye to the cockroaches,” one Twitter user commented.

“Normal in the humidity unless you ventilate the area or use aircon. Lost some shoes a few years ago which were still a bit damp when they went into a cupboard,” another wrote.

“Ouch. The person who turned off the air con to save money is going to sht themselves when they see the cost of sorting all this out,” someone else said.

Many people commenting on social media said the destruction was the result of poor maintenance by store owners and bad air conditioning.

The Metrojaya center, where moldy shoes and bags were found, was given a deep clean when staff came back to the building.

A shop spokesperson said the ‘damaged goods’ had been thrown away. Many cleaners wearing hazmat suits and masks were removing the items and giving the shop a deep clean.
