The CoE or Church of England has placed new guidelines advising that a maximum of five people would be allowed to attend the wedding in the light of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
After the government released advice around the coronavirus crisis, including banning travel outside the country and closing schools, the CoE has also taken note of the requirement for social distancing.
It is also advised that all the events that are presently planned would be required to be notably scaled back to adhere to new rules to help in preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
The information uploaded on the CoE website states that in case families wish to rearrange the events, the Church would ensure to help where possible.
It added that in case of weddings, the Church recommends that the number of people attending the ceremony should not be more than five people- the bride, the groom, the priest, and two witnesses.
It also advised to everyone to observe social distancing except the couple. The guidance also makes clear that traditions like the priest touching rings or hands of the couple as a part of blessing or prayer are not needed.
It also clarified that reading of banns would not be possible because of the suspension of public worship services.
However, couples can apply for the license via a different process and those whose banns have been read already can proceed with the procedure.
The Church has added that streaming could be arranged, however, it knows that the couples might wish to postpone the ceremony until they can hold the ceremony in front of family and friends.
This advice also applied to baptisms, which means fewer people are allowed to attend, the priest should avoid holding the child, and the water must be administered with an appropriate implement like a shell.
