New Jersey REPLACES Christopher Columbus Statue With One Honoring Harriet Tubman


Newark’s mayor has recently revealed the designs for the upcoming statue of Harriet Tubman, which the city will unveil in place of the Christopher Columbus monument that was removed last year.

Ras Baraka went on explaining how the new monument honoring the famed abolitionist was miles better than what the authorities were expecting. Moreover, she also spoke about how it went above and beyond their vision of how it would turn out. This was also the same moment where she went on to reveal how the statue would officially be revealed sometime in the following year.

This particular statue will reportedly stand in Newark’s famous Washington Park, at the same location where a statue of Christopher Columbus was once present, for nearly a century.point 280 |

The latter was removed in June of 2020 after protests from the Black Lives Matter movement gained great momentum at eradicating all those figures from American history that were termed racist.point 162 | 1

On the other hand, Newark’s mayor spoke about how selecting Harriet Tubman as a role model for the figure was the perfect decision, referring to the section as a poetic decision, keeping in mind the great ties she had with the state of New Jersey.

Tubman reportedly spent much of her time and efforts to help raise money for all of her work that relating to the Underground Railroad. This move is reportedly thought to have brought in more than dozens of escaped slaves, via the city of Newark itself.

This was the final stop on the railroad, right before New York, explained reports.

In a recent sit-down interview with the CBS, the mayor explained how Tubman actually stepped her foot into the property, unlike Christopher Columbus. Therefore, she said that it was not only appropriate but also logical that such a decision came forward in the end.
