His career in entertainment was on the fast track. It felt like he never stops to work. He has gone to continuous success. But his life was not an easy journey.
He was born as an only child in Hayward, California but spent his childhood in all over the world. As his dad was a championship wrestler, Johnson family had to move their homes a lot.
As pro wrestling did not pay so much to provide a family in the 1970s, the life of Johnson family was hard.
While Johnson and his mother were living in Honolulu, Hawaii, they find an eviction notice on their door one day.
They couldn’t afford the rent on their studio apartment because his mother was working as a housekeeper in the hotel business, which paid her so little.
So they had to move to Tennessee, where his father was living.
Looking back that time, Johnson said, “It broke my heart. I remember saying to myself, ‘I will do anything and everything I possibly can to make sure we never get evicted again.”

As the life of the family was still miserable, his mother tried to commit suicide but was saved. Johnson said, “My heart stopped, horns were blowing and cars were swerving out of the way. In that moment, one of the greatest lessons I’ve ever learned was how precious life is and how in an instant it can all go away.”
Johnson was even arrested. “When I was 16-years-old, that was the last time that I was arrested,” he said. “At that time, we were at an all-time low, I think, with our family.”
Regretting his behaviors, Johnson was comforted and encouraged by his teachers at school. Luckily, he was asked to join the school football team and fell in love with sports.
“My grades got better, and I started getting recruited from every college across the country. My thought process started to change. That’s when I started thinking about goals and what I wanted to accomplish,” Johnson said.

He also played college football but decided to start his career in a professional wrestler, then appearing on screen.
“At that time, I was little unsure of what was actually gonna happen, you know, so I just have to, you know, put my faith in God and continue to work hard and hopefully good things will happen,” Johnson said. “I have my own special relationship with God, you know, and I certainly feel very blessed. I count my blessings every day,” Johnson revealed.
