Chris Cotton was 32 years old when he died, only two months before his baby is due.
The comedian is best known for his work on Comedy Central. In a post on Twitter, the network wrote: “We’re devastated by the loss of Chris Cotton – a hilarious comedian, a beloved member of the Comedy Central family and a joy to be around. He will be missed.”
Mr. Cotton and his wife were expecting a child due on February. They even set up a baby registry gift on Target with a heartwarming message that read: “We are so excited that you would like to shower us with gifts as we celebrate the coming of Baby Blu. We can not wait to meet him/her!”
A GoFundMe page set up for the family has raised more than $50,500 from over 675 donors. The page reads: “It’s with great sadness we announce the untimely passing of our friend and brother CHRIS COTTON.
“We’ve set up this *official fundraiser* with the blessings of his loving wife, Erica.
“All monies will go directly to her and their growing family.”
It added: “If Chris ever made you laugh, enraged or shake your head please pay that forward with a donation.”
The page also said that there will be upcoming comedy/memorial shows in both Philadelphia and New York City to honor him.
“In the meantime, if you have a funny Chris memory feel free to share it below. You may help make someone smile.
“And lastly, tell your people you love them before you don’t have the chance.”
One donor wrote: “Chris was not only a talented comedian but a kind and caring human being that worked hard at helping those less fortunate . Our deepest sympathy to Erica and family.”
Another commented: “I can’t believe I am writing this. This was way too early for Chris. I am lost for words. :(.”
A third said: “Rest in Paradise amongst the Angels! Sending love & light to your wife and child!”
