A Chinese woman has been tracked down in France after she bragged online about cheating airport coronavirus screenings.
She boasted that she had been suffering from a fever but took some tablets to mask the symptoms so she could go to Europe from Wuhan, China, where the deadly virus was first detected.
The woman then shared photos eating at a Michelin star restaurant with her family. Her post immediately outraged people and the Chinese embassy in Paris was blasted with emails and phone calls.
“Just before I left, I had a low fever and cough. I was scared to death and rushed to eat [fever-reducing] medicine,” she wrote, according to BBC.
“I kept on checking my temperature. Luckily I managed to get it down and my exit was smooth.”
Airports had temperature scanners to prevent anyone with signs of a fever from boarding the plane. But the woman bragged that she had used anti-fever drug to lower her temperature.
She also shared photos of her dining at a restaurant with her family. “Finally I can have a good meal, I feel like I’ve been starving for two days. When you are in a gourmet city of course you have to eat Michelin [food],” she wrote.
The woman’s post quickly went viral and she was criticized by internet users.
The Chinese embassy in Paris said to French media that it would remain in contact with the Chinese woman and provide updates.
China has quarantined over 56 million people in 14 different cities within Hubei province. Coronavirus has spread to countries as far as Japan, South Korea, Nepal, Vietnam, Taiwan, and the US.
