In 2011 when a Danish school trip turned wrong as the boat containing children capsized into an icy lake.
However, seven children died for almost six hours and came back to life once the doctors started warming up their blood.
The BBC Documentary titled ‘Life and Death’, tells the story of the school trip that turned into something much scarier in the process.
Katrine and Casper who now in their mid-20s are two out of the seven children sharing their experience in the documentary as they provide all the details on what happened on that school trip.
Dying and then coming back to life is considered to be one the largest unknown cases. During the documentary, Katrine 16, got emotional as she recalled the memories of that school trip that almost took her life.
Casper said that the boat tripped in the middle of the icy cold lake before even the school kids fell out.
Both of the survivors declared that the weather was freezing, cold, hard and windy, and Katrine said that once she came out of the water, then only the nightmare started.
She could hear the screams and horror in everyone’s voice and the teachers were telling them to swim otherwise they might die.
Everything seemed so unreal in her eyes as the water standing at two degrees Celsius and they were about 100meters away from the land.
Casper said that he could not swim, for which one of his friends saw him struggling came up to help him. He also continued saying that, after a short while he was clinically dead due to the temperature of the water.
Dr. Steen Barnung was a part of the rescue explained that they reached the location to find the kids to be dead for two hours. It was Dr. Michael Jaegar Wansche helped in warming their blood and brought them back to life.
He said that because of extreme hypothermia stopped the hearts of the children, which also slowed down their metabolism as well.
Both Katrine and Casper are very much thankful enough that they are alive and aim to be living a healthy and happy life.
