Their 32-year-old mom, Katrina Scott, died of liver cancer the day after tying the knot with her long-term partner.

She left behind seven children, aged between 6 and 22, and Jay Scott, 48.

After Katrina passed away, the community helped the family get through the festive season. Friends and kindhearted strangers worked together to bring them gifts to open on Christmas.

In an interview with Derbyshire Live, Jay said: “When I saw how much they got I was just appreciative.

“Someone anonymously donated £1,000 so I bought them some clothes and a PS4 which is something we wouldn’t ordinarily afford. It’s nice to have people like that in the community.

“It helped the kids through it.”

It was in September last year when Katrina was told she had stage 4 liver cancer, which already spread to bile duct and lungs.

She married Jay, her partner of 10 years, before passing away only 24 hours later.

The couple have six children, 13-year-old Callum, 11-year-old Tyler, 9-year-old Levi, twins Poppy-Mae and Kaitlin-Rose, both six, and 7-year-old Lillien-Rose. Katrina also has a step-daughter, 22-year-old Ayesha.

Jay said that Katrina had purchased Christmas gifts for the children before she died but he kept some of the presents for the children’s birthdays.

Katrina’s father, Brian, went to the family’s home and prepared dinner for them.

“We got a Christmas hamper and a good friend of ours bought the children a motorcross bike,” Jay added.

“But towards the end of the day, when the kids had all gone to bed, you’re left with your own thoughts. It was hard, but it was as special as it could be.”
