Hundreds of primary schools will teach children as young as six about touching their own private parts as part of classes.
The new sex and relationships teaching program called ‘All About Me,’ is being rolled out across 241 primaries by Warwickshire County Council.
Many parents believe such lessons are sexualizing their kids.
A couple said they felt so bothered that they decided to withdraw their children from lessons at a school where the program is already implemented.
The program could be adopted by other local authorities as part of the Government’s overhaul of Relationship and Sex Education.
Religious groups and family campaigners warned that guidelines issued by the Department of Education meant schools could soon be sending out sexual material to children that some parents would consider inappropriate.
Politicians who supported the RSE legislation also expressed their concerns.
Tory MP David Davies said: “I and many other parents would be furious at completely inappropriate sexual matters being taught to children as young as six. These classes go way beyond the guidance the Government is producing and are effectively sexualising very young children.”
According to documents obtained by The Mail, All About Me classes involve students aged 6 to 10 being told by teachers there are ‘rules about touching yourself.’
An explanation of ‘rules about self-stimulation’ also appears in the program’s Year Two lesson plan for 6 and 7-year-olds.
Under Touching Myself section, teachers will tell pupils that “lots of people like to tickle or stroke themselves as it might feel nice.” They will also have to instruct children that this may include touching their ‘private parts.’
But the youngsters are warned in the program that it is ‘not polite’ to touch themselves in public. In the same section, children are also given situations which they must know what’s OK and what’s not OK.
The lesson is repeated for Years Four and Five, involving children aged 8 to 10.
Warwickshire has already introduced the lessons in some primaries before the nationwide launch.
