The image shows little boy and girl walking hand in hand but has sparked a sexist debate among people on social media who slammed it for reinforcing gender stereotypes.
The girl, wearing pink scrubs, has been labeled with the words ‘nurse in training’, while the words ‘doctor in training’ is written on the back of green scrubs worn by a boy.
Twitter account @TheMedicalShots shared the picture and captioned it: ‘This is cute, isn’t it?’ with an emoji of a face with love heart eyes.
But the picture left social media users far from impressed, gaining 3,400 comments and 21,000 likes. It also sparked a big debate on sexism on Twitter.
One person wrote: ‘No it’s not. Why isn’t she a Doctor as well? Or why is the boy not a nurse?’
Another social media user edited the image and covered the words ‘nurse’ and ‘doctor’ on both of the children’s backs to read ‘health professional in training’, which received 24,000 likes.
Many posted gifs of celebrities shaking their heads, saying no, and rolling their eyes.
Another said: ‘Sorry, I live in a world where women can be doctors too’.
“The children are cute. The sexism on their backs is NOT.”
Another accused the account of tweeting “from the year 1950.”
Even the color of the scrub came into question. Asking why the girl is wearing pink and the boy is wearing green.
But some defended the picture, with one woman tweeting: ‘I’m studying to be a nurse and I’m proud of it.
Don’t make such a big deal of this ugh’. Someone else posted: ‘I think it’s cute. And please ignore the social justice hate mobs.’
