Childhood Best Friends Now 91 And 89 Recognize Each Other When They See Each Other For The First Time In 70 Years

Friendship is the most precious gift from God.

We make friends at every stage of life, and every friend is different from each other. We laugh, we enjoy, and we cry together. When you are a true friend nothing can apart you.

Two elderly best friends who were separated for 70 years have been reunited – after moving to the same care home.

Nora Boardman, 91, was stunned when long-lost pal Eileen Gill, 89, turned up at the nursing home where she was living.

The elderly pair recognized each other despite being apart for seven decades and have now rekindled their friendship.

Nora said: “I never thought I’d see Eileen again after we went our separate ways as children, so it was so nice to see her.”

She moved to Crispin Court Care Home last August and was followed by best pal Eileen in January.

Nora added: “I feel lucky to have my best friend back in my life, it feels like nothing has changed.”

The childhood friends grew up in Eccleshall, Staffs, but Eileen moved to a village 20 miles away aged 12.

They lost touch and led separate lives – with Eileen working on a farm and Nora employed in a hand grenade factory.

Eileen was married to husband Ted for 49 years before he passed away 14 years ago.

Nora was married to her husband Bob for 55 years before he died four years ago.

70 years later, the once inseparable schoolgirls now spend their days causing mischief in their care home.

Nora said: “We try to spend a lot of time together – if we don’t see each other much during the day, we’ll always have dinner together.

“Eileen will come behind me and touch my arm to let me know she’s there.”

As Nora doesn’t have any family, Eileen’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have taken her under their wing.

Nora said: “They have all been very nice to me – I feel like an extended part of their family.

“I couldn’t feel happier that we’re now reunited and get to reminisce on our old memories as well as creating new ones.”

Eileen added: “I’m not sure what’s going to happen next but one thing I can say is that it’s the happiest I’ve been in months.

“I’ve been happy here since day one.”
