Most of us were just babbling words and wetting our diapers at night when we were 5 years old but Faith Perkins already became a published author.

How’s that for early achievement?

She didn’t write it herself, of course, but Faith wrote the book “Faith and Trinity the Unicorn” with her mother Neka. The story is inspired by the loss of Faith’s older sister, Trinity.

“My husband and I lost Trinity prematurely at 24 weeks in May 2012, of course, that was devastation, it hurt us, but our faith prompted us to try again, and that’s when Faith was born,” said Neka.

The book follows Faith as she travels the world in the company of her sister Trinity who is a unicorn.

Explaining how she and her mom wrote the book together, Faith said, “What we would do is me and she would sit down, and she would tell me what it would be like if we were playing with each other and whatever I would tell her she would write down on a piece of paper.”

Both Neka and Faith are hoping that their story will also help others who are dealing with loss.

“I hope to inspire so many other individuals to talk about it, it’s not easy, it’s painful,” said Neka.

Neka explains that in the process of writing the book with Faith, she has found healing and helped her find some closure.

“I can only imagine what life would have been like with her here, so this allows us to keep the hope alive,” said Neka.

As for Faith, the book getting published is only the beginning.

The proceeds from the sale of the book are being used to help the homeless, help kids who are going on field trips and are being used to donate gifts to local NICUs.
