Chef Arrested After He Was Caught Trying To Kidnap A Baby In A Grocery Store


A 59-year-old chef has been arrested after he was caught on camera trying to kidnap a baby while the mother was paying for groceries.

The horrifying incident occurred at the Bashas’ supermarket in Flagstaff.

Police said that the mother was paying at the self-checkout line when a man suddenly took the woman’s shopping cart while her baby was still inside.

The mother was looking at the electronic cashier screen when the chef allegedly tried to kidnap her baby.

Before the chef left the store with the child, the mother managed to stop him. Flagstaff police said he is 5ft 10inc tall and weighs around 160lbs.

Authorities used his debit card information to locate and arrest him, Fox 10 TV reported.

59-year-old Jefferey Roholt has been arrested a few hours later and charged with kidnapping. When asked by investigators, he said he thought the cart with the baby inside was his.

According to Roholt’s Facebook page, he is a chef who studied at the Culinary Institute of America.

His LinkedIn page also shows that he attended the University of Utah from 1981 to 1983 and he worked as an executive chef at Remington Hotels.

He also holds an associate’s degree in culinary arts and chef training from Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in Paris, according to his LinkedIn page.

But public records show that he was arrested two years ago and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
