The former cop faces a minimum sentence of 12.5 years and a maximum of 40 years for second-degree murder.

It took the jury more than 10 hours of deliberation to find Chauvin guilty of all three charges, second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter, based on the testimony and evidence presented in the Hennepin County court.

He is expected to file an appeal of his conviction.

During his trial, Chauvin’s defense attorney Eric Nelson raised concerns that the huge media and public attention to the case would bias the jury and prevent the former cop from receiving a fair trial.

Other matters that could be brought up on appeal are the city’s announcement of a $27 million settlement with Floyd’s family, protests over Daunte Wright’s death, and Rep Maxine Waters’ remarks on the night of closing statements.

Chauvin is set to remain in Oak Park Heights for the next eight weeks as he awaits sentencing. According to a Department of Corrections spokesperson, he is being held in a single cell under ‘administrative segregation’ for his safety.

His prison cell measures about 10 by 7 feet and it is fitted with a cement slab bed, toilet and sink, and a table.

The sink and toilet are made of steel to prevent them from being smashed and used as weapons.

The prison has extremely high levels of security for those who are being disciplined and those who need to be separated for safety concerns.
