We have previously covered how Kellie Chauvin, the wife of former police officer Derek Chauvin, filed for divorce on the very day that Derek was imprisoned with a bail set at $500,000. It was also filed just one day before Derek was charged with murder and manslaughter over Floyd’s death.

The couple had been married for 10 years since June 2010. They had no children between them, although Kellie had two children from the previous marriage. The filing cites that the marriage and the bond between the two has been broken and can’t be reconciled.

It is understood that the reason she requested her last name to be changed is so that she could disconnect herself from her to-be-ex husband Derek Chauvin. Although she did not specify what she wanted to changer her name into, CNN reports that Kellie had previously used Thao and Xiong as last names.

The Chauvins reportedly first met at a medical center where Kellie was working as a radiologist. Ironically, this very center was where Floyd was announced dead.

In 2018, she competed and won the Mrs. Minnesota competition. She characterized Derek as a rare gentleman who has a soft spot despite his tough appearances in uniform and said she wanted to advocate for Asian Americans should she win the pageant.
