Celine Dion has become uncomfortably familiar with tragedy.

Just days after her husband of 21 years, René Angélil, passed, Dion also lost her brother, Daniel Dion.

Daniel was diagnosed with invasive cancer in his brain, tongue, and throat, cancers that can be particularly difficult to treat. He was just 59 years old at the time of his death.

In a cruel twist of fate, Daniel suffered from a similar cancer that killed René, who passed away due to throat cancer.

Losing her brother and her husband so close together must be a heartbreaking experience for Celine. Both have been by her side from such a young age. Celine grew up with her brother and met her husband when she was only 12 years old.

René mortgaged his home to pay for Celine’s debut record. The couple married in 1994 after Celine had become a successful and well-known singer, largely due to the support of René.

René worked as Celine’s manager up until 2014 when he was forced to step away due to his illness. Celine took a needed hiatus from her work to tend to her husband and deal with his illness.

No doubt, Celine sought solace in the love of her family during this difficult time. But after suffering the loss of her long-time partner, Celine has had to face yet another tragedy.

Daniel passed away at a care center in Quebec surrounded by his loved ones.

Celine and Daniel are two of fourteen siblings. Daniel has left behind many family members including two daughters and two grandchildren.

Daniel was more reserved than his famous sister, and the family requests both discretion and privacy as they deal with this tremendous loss.
