Despite the rise of rival shows like The Voice, America’s Got Talent, and X-Factor, American Idol still remains as one of the most popular venues for aspiring singers to show the nation what they’ve got and hopefully win the coveted title of becoming the next American Idol.
Getting past the audition round is already a great personal achievement. But the show typically spans several months and in the face of this grueling schedule, the greatest challenge the contestants face is staying power. It’s not just a matter of talent because other factors also influence one’s success. One of them is mental grit and the other is song choice.
In this video by the American Idol YouTube channel, we get to see Idol contestant Catie Turner sing “Call Me” by Blondie in front of a live audience as part of her Top 24 solo performance. Catie already captured the hearts of the judges with her quirky audition but she continues to impress as she has made the cut thus far. This Neshaminy High School senior is ready to give her all and this performance proves it. Catie’s father suggested the song and it was a perfect fit because Catie absolutely nailed it.
