The sex trafficking case against former financier Jeffrey Epstein, 66, has been dismissed by a New York federal judge.

Prosecutors requested US District Judge Richard Berman to dismiss the criminal case against the former financier after he took his own life in a Manhattan federal jail on August 10.

He was found lifeless in his cell having been previously taken off suicide watch. Epstein died of suicide by hanging, according to a New York City medical examiner.

Terminating an indictment against a dead person is considered a formality but Berman scheduled an open-ended hearing and invited the alleged victims and their attorneys to speak before dismissing the case.

More than 20 victims came forward and testified about the alleged abuse Epstein subjected them to.

But his suicide ‘robbed’ them of the chance to ‘confront him one by one’ in court, said the first accuser to speak at the hearing, Courtney Wild. “For that, he is a coward.”

Wild claimed she was sexually abused over many years.

Geoffrey Berman, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and the FBI met with many women, giving them thanks for bravely sharing their stories.

The dismissal of the 66-year-old’s case won’t affect any civil claims brought by the victims against his estate of the federal grand jury investigation into his death.

One internet user commented: “And just like that its over. They got rid him just like that. No justice to the victims and the elites responsible for some of the most heinous crimes.”

Another wrote: “So… we will never know the name of these sex traffickers… who for decades vigorously recruited these young girls for Epstein. ANOTHER TRAVESTY OF INJUSTICE…”

A third said: “He can’t be convicted in a court of law if he’s dead.”
