Satirical floats mocking Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel, and Donald Trump featured in a German parade, which has been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The carnival floats made their way through the empty streets of Duesseldorf, the place where raucous celebrations were usually held.
However, street festivals, parades, and other large gatherings have been canceled due to Covid-19.
Organizers of the event did not want to let Rose Monday pass by this year without the traditional Carnival floats of current events.
Eight floats were sent through the city, with one showing Putin being kicked in the groin while another shows the former US president above a fire marked with the words ‘Make America Great Again!’
There was also a float showing a brain flying out of the head of an activist against Covid-19 restrictions and another slows the Earth struggling to hold off a virus.
Float builder Jacques Tilly, 56, told news agency dpa: “It’s a small signal that we’re alive.”
He also said that his main influences for the designs are classic British comedies including Little Britain, Monty Phyton, and Spitting Image.
One of Germany’s super spreader events stemmed from a celebration in a town near Cologne in February 2020. Many people contracted the infection from a man with coronavirus.
Authorities are not taking any chances this year, with public consumption of alcoholic beverages still banned in many places.
One person commented: “I’m not a tRump supporter but that one is seriously disturbing. I didn’t roar with laughter like I did when I saw the Baby tRump Blimp, I was just horrified beyond belief.”
Another wrote: “What grotesque displays. I cant imagine the mind from which this type of output comes.”
A third added: “And this display is supposed to bring peace and harmony worldwide! Absolutely pathetic and sad ! Laud help the future generations!!”
