A care home employee died from COVID-19 moments after sending a message to her daughter in which she appeared to be optimistic about beating the coronavirus.
58-year-old Sue Cairns from Kent, the UK, was admitted to the hospital after exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.
While the carer was later allowed to return and self-quarantine at her home, she was once again hospitalized after her condition had worsened.
Following an 18-day battle with the killer bug, the mother and grandmother tragically passed away, just after sending a hopeful text to her daughter.
“I’m not quite there yet but I’ve got this. I love you all so much,” Sue wrote in her message to daughter Laura.
While the heartbroken daughter was allowed to see her deceased mother while wearing protective gear, she never got the chance to kiss or hug her.
“By the time I got to the ward, she was gone. I was allowed to say goodbye in full protective clothing, including a hazmat suit, but I couldn’t hug or kiss her,” Laura said according to The Mirror.
“She was still holding the picture of me and my 15-month-old daughter Marissa.”
As KentOnline reported, Laura expressed how she not only lost her mother but also her best friend.
“She was funny, caring, and warm and a great mum and nan. She was full of life and loved to party,” she said.
According to the grieving daughter, she believes that her mum’s resistance could have been weakened due to pneumonia she suffered from several months before contracting coronavirus.
