A video that a British care worker uploaded on her Facebook account after being verbally abused by a random shopper has been viewed just under 8 million times as of this writing.
The worker who uploaded the video was Kimberley Simpson, who works at a care center located in Staffodshire. She said that she was shopping at a B&M store when another shopper started following her and started shouting that Simpson should not be allowed to shop in the store.
In the video that you can check for yourself here, the other shopper accuses Simpson of spreading the virus. The reason for this abuse was that Simpson was still in her work uniform.
In a document that was released by the National Health Service (NHS), there is no scientific evidence that a worker wearing uniform outside increases infection risks. It merely states that it may be a good idea to change because there are people who may overreact.
Simpson said that she was distraught and disgusted at the altercation. She explained that her facility must be doing something right since none of her clients have tested positive for Covid-19 so far.
The care worker also pointed out how none of the shoppers or the staff intervened to help her or stop the fight. Simpson said that only a Polish couple approached her to say that the other shopper was being mean and that she shouldn’t cry, an act of kindness she thanked them for.
The Daily Mail reports that more at least 131 care workers have died because of the novel coronavirus. They were one of the few essential workers who continued to show up to their work place even at the worst of times.
In a subsequent post after the issue went viral online, Simpson thanked many people for their support. She shared pictures of the gifts that she received after the altercation went online.
The exact nature of the story is still unclear as the other shopper that was filmed by Simpson has not explained what happened from her perspective. Some comments on Simpson’s Facebook argues that the video was taken out of context and it was in fact Simpson who was hostile.
