While coronavirus is causing negative effects everywhere, residents of Venice in Italy are rather finding something positive in the whole situation.
As Italy is under a complete lockdown in a bid to decrease the spread of Covid-19 amongst the people, residents in Venice are witnessing that in the absence of tourists, water in the canals is becoming clearer.
In fact, the water has become so clear that the locals can spot small fishes swimming in the water of the canals.
These people of the romantic city are so pleased with cleaner waterways that they are sharing their most-liked clear canal photographs on a Facebook group called Venezia Pulita, which means Clean Venice.
A user commented on how beautiful it is to see nature resuming its like. Another user expressed their amazement to see the bottom, which they have never seen before.
The people were openly expressing how they wished the canals in Venice always remained this clear.
According to the spokesperson for the mayor’s office said that the alteration in appearance does not have to anything with lack of pollution or improved water quality.
They explained that it is due to sediment settling down at the bottom in the absence of less traffic on canals.
They added that due to increased boat traffic, sediments are usually brought to the top of the surface of water. They also noted that the air quality in the region is improving due to the decrease in boat traffic.
On the other hand, China experienced something like this but on a larger scale. Imaged revealed that as people in China stayed at their homes, traffic dipped, and industrial facilities and factories remained closed, air quality in China improved significantly.
