Gregory Mathieu, a 22-year-old man from Canada, was working as a grocery store bagger in Québec City.
He bought a lottery ticket from IGA Extra, the grocery store where he was working. The drawing was held by Loto Québec on last Tuesday.
On the next morning, Mathieu went to the grocery store and when there was nobody at the register, he asked the cashier to check the ticket.
When she checked it and told him that he won $70 million, he couldn’t believe his eyes and started shaking and crying, out of excitement.
He called his father right away to pick him as he was not in the shape to drive.
He then called his mother and brother, who later joined him at the store and then they went directly to his grandparents’ place to catch a breath.
Mathieu said that he still can’t believe his eyes. But he already has plans for spending the money. He wants to celebrate it with his family, so he announced that he will be giving $1 million to each of his family members.
He has a family of 7. After this, he also has plans of replacing his old car with a new one, as it is giving him troubles. He also has traveling plans.
On Friday a press conference was held. During which, Sandra Julien, his mother called their family close-knit.
She said that they’re a close-knit family and she is thrilled that their family is able to experience such a life-changing moment together.
According to Loto Québec, no one has ever won this large jackpot in the Canadian Province.
They also said that Lotto Max produces great winners every year and is one of the favorite lotteries of Quebecers. This record-breaking lottery won by Gregory Mathieu has coincided with the 50th anniversary of Loto-Québec.
