A Cafe Owner Allows Homeless Dogs To Sleep Inside The Cafe For Their Safety


Homelessness is a big problem nowadays not only for humans but for animals too.

In fact, statistics show that the number of stray animals (dogs and cats alone) outnumber the population of homeless humans.

In Greece, homeless dogs are a big problem. Along with its financial struggle, Greece also fighting with stray dogs’ problems. Despite the efforts of the animal rescue organizations and rescue shelter, there are still a lot of stray dogs in the streets of Greece.

Now, private establishments have decided to do something in their end to help these animals. This café, continue to open their doors after they close for the day for an amazing reason.

Hott Spott café in Greece has started to do something to help these stray dogs. This café is located in Mytilene, Lesbos island’s capital city. They stop giving services to customers at 3 o’clock in the morning, but their doors are open 24-hours a day for the city strays!

The owner of the Hott Spott café, Niki Belissary, decided to open the doors of her establishment to help strays dogs. He is doing to keep the stray dogs warm, especially during the cold winter nights.

Niki understands that it can be extremely difficult especially during the winter months. 

Niki Belissary said, “We have been here for 26 years. We’ve served as an alternative place for people to meet and gather. And deal with the many issues of the community. ” Belissary further explained that she has noticed for the last years how people would approach things and how they have been changing.

“There’s more solidarity, a lot more humanism, people want to help. Whether it is the refugee crisis, stray dogs, or homeless people,” she said.

The café owner explained that they want to get involved. They want to help and make this world a better place to live in for everybody, including the homeless dogs. “This is our purpose in life. We hope that our reaches out to a lot of people and a lot of animals,” Belissary added.

It seems like her customers are also enjoying the company of these four-legged transients.
