A Cafe Offers Customers To ‘Pay What You Can Afford’ In London

A cafe in London’s Wood Green come up with a unique concept and the cafe is offering a ‘pay what you like’ breakfast in order to make it easy for the people who don’t have the cash to afford breakfast and now they can still start the day with a meal.

The place is known as ‘Eggs & Bread’ and it allows anyone to donate some cash after eating anything from here so that others don’t feel bad about not being able to pay for their food.

The cafe got attention when a Twitter user called Steve Parks shared his experience there. He shared the post by saying: “$23 for a boiled egg, one piece of toast and a mug of tea?

“The story of a modern London café…”

Obviously, this was the surprising thing for modern London where everything is extortionately overpriced and flashy. He then describes the whole story, positive step behind this and good work being done by the folks at the cafe.

He shared his experience with a picture of ‘Eggs & Bread’ and explained: “So this is the café. Just near Wood Street Overground station. It’s nothing flashy.

“The menu is basic too. The sign outside boasts that it is ‘the smallest menu in Wood Street’.

“It only does boiled eggs (no eggs in any other way), toast, jam, porridge. Mix those in any way you like. It also does tea or coffee.

“It doesn’t do takeaway, you have to eat in.”

Steve explained how everything is simple like boiling eggs and stacking the dishes – is self-service. Obviously, you feel wonder why you’d pay so much for so little service.

Well, he explains a really good reason behind this and that is ‘Helping others.’

He added: “The café is a just normal café, bright and welcoming on the main street people walk down to the station. Nothing to make anyone feel they are ‘other’ if they have breakfast here. In fact, it’s cool!

“It’s a place to socialize, as well as eat. The founder is incredibly friendly.

“If you want to pay, there’s a small donation box next to where you drop off your dirty plates. But nobody sees, and nobody will notice if you can’t put anything in.

“The idea is that if you can afford to put something in, maybe contribute to some other breakfasts too.”

It is a good idea I guess.

The café believes in a simple principle. As they say on their Twitter account: “Everyone Deserves A Good Start To The Day – whether you’re a city broker or simply broke, everyone’s welcome.”

It is a big thing to do in a city as wealthy as London, but those who benefit – as well as those who love to support good work,  will appreciate this.
